Saturday
- Working away on tax stuff for the most part.
Discovered
that the old CS5 Flash install won't read the new files. Figured out a
way to hack the files to make them readable, hopefully... It was a real
pain getting it to run on the old XP box - the JAVA RTE was out of
date, and Sun, bless their hearts, didn't want to allow me to download
the last stable
version (7.x) for XP, but only 8.31, the newer (and untested against XP)
version... After a few scary trials where the machine would not boot
windows it does seem to work now.
I feel enormously stressed by all this, and some othe stuff, so it's
been a miserable week.
Friday
- Still not feeling right. I did drag myself over to the college for a
couple hours of lab, but didn't really get much done.
At home I'm grinding through getting ready for the tax appointment on
Monday.
Thursday 26 February 2015
Thursday
- Nice enough, with some breezes and high clouds.
I
didn't go north. I wanted to, and was ready to - but felt worse and
worse as the morning went on. Pink stuff, ant-acids and aspirin weren't
helping. Eventually it was clear that I couldn't physically make the
drive, so I had to email and let Sandra, my cousin, know that I
couldn't make it. She was quite gracious about it, but I still feel bad
about it. She and Claire came to my mother's services, back
in
1998, and I'd like to have returned the kindness for her, but was
physically ill.
After that I just crashed and slept most of the day.
By evening I was better, but went to bed very early...
Wednesday 25 February 2015
Wednesday -
Nice weather again. Though, honestly, we need rain still, so...
Working on the app. Things are coming together for Version 3....
I
installed Flash CS5 on S's machine and my own spare XP machine. It is a
noisy old Northwood P4 @2.8Ghz with some issues, but it should do the
trick for now. I've set it up with the old flat screen monitor my Dad
gave me back in 2003 or 2004. I did order $10 worth of RAM (1GB) to
help with things, but XP SP3 is only using about 150MB of the 1GB it
has already.
It isn't connected to the Internet, so there
isn't a security risk. I built it for a friend that never really used
it, so it's mostly bitrot free (though it overheats if you look at it
sideways).
Aunt
Claire's services are Thursday and Friday. It's short notice, but I
want to go, and am packed, but don't feel 100% (I haven't felt well
enough to do my walk in over a week!). Also my brother has the flu, my
sister isn't responding to emails, so I'd need to get a hotel somewhere
in Sf. The chapel appears to be near SFO, so it shouldn't be a problem,
though pricey.
Also, as
S reminded me, I have a tax appointment on Monday. I thought it was a
week out, forgetting that February is a short month. Bah. I can
reschedule it I guess. I don't even have my 1099 from last year, this
isn't good.
Book #9 is Foxglove
Summer: A Rivers of London Novel (PC Peter Grant Book 5),
by Ben Aaronovitch. I mentioned that Glen Cook made the hard-boiled
Raymond Chandler dick work in a fantasy world, Aaronovitch is a mirror
image, making magic work as a plot element in a modern world of high
tech and procedural police storyline. Very different, but both fun to
read.
Tuesday
- Clearing up again.
Working on the app - mostly cleanup stuff, but also some work on the
prompts.
My
Aunt Claire passed away, in her sleep. She was the remaining sibling to
my mother, the oldest daughter. No word on services or anything yet.
Monday
- Still sprinkling and raining, yay!
I
finished up the flipbook animation, then went off to class with S. The
instructor gave it a fairly cursory review, but seemed pleased.
Sheryl's was much more creative...
We practiced with Flash. It's
not too hard, but has some gotcha's. Next week's assignment is 120
frames at 12fps, done this time in Flash.
Rose (the instructor) suggested using the flipbook as the template.
Makes sense.
Home about 5pm and worn out...
Late in the evening there was an email from my sister that my Aunt
Claire was seriously ill. She's 94 and in hospice.
Sunday
-It threatened to rain, and then, finally, did. Huh.
My fault for running the sprinklers earlier...
I spent a lot of the day
working on the animation project for class. It went slowly at first,
then I got better at things and made good progress. it isn't great art,
but it doesn't have to be...
No app work.
