Saturday - Nice weather

S says she wants her old solar water heater panels OFF her roof - the roofers are getting anxious - so AH and his boys and myself will go over tomorrow morning and take them down for her. She has offered them to me, for free, though I need another house project like a hole in  my head...

I made a quick trip to the local hardware store here in the Acres and picked up a trailer lights connection pigtail - the old one on the trailer couldn't quite reach the socket on the Ram, so I spliced that it and it works well.  We'll need the trailer for tomorrow, but the new hitch and ball are of the correct height and fit and everything is ready to go.

I borrowed the neighbor's son's metal detector and did more nail and screw pickup.  The magnet only gets the surface iron stuff, so I need to get aluminum nails and screws and scraps and the deeper buried ferrous stuff that is there, and I got another handful, just from the shed and directly in front of it.

It's not surprising that I had flat tires, the surprise is that it took so long...

Nails and screws
Some of the nails and screws and bits of sharp metal that I picked up.

Friday 14 February  2020

Friday - Again, beautiful weather.

Gums were aching all day from yesterday's cleaning.  Sheesh.

I went into town and picked up some more cinder block (54 in two trips) at lowes, and some half blocks, and more column blocks.

Then I roughed out where things would be.  It looks like 9 1/2 blocks, about 12 linear feet, makes a pretty good interval, and gets to the north side of the house, ending where there is a remaining chain link pole still.  So, about 80 feet overall, including the column posts.

I am still short on cinder block, but I have enough to start.

My neighbor mentioned he was taking his wife out for dinner.

I asked: "What's the occasion?"

He just looked at me, then said, "That's right, you're not married. Valentine's Day."

Thursday 13 February 2020

Thursday - A nice day.

I did various things, then went into town for a dental cleaning.  Owwwwww. And I scheduled an appointment with the oral surgeon for early next month.

I've been working my way through the Lua book. Neat language, but strange...

Wednesday 12 February 2020

Wednesday - Beautiful weather.

I picked up a bunch of column blocks at Lowe's, sixteen of them.  After laying things out I realize I need a lot more if things are to look reasonable...

I also picked up a 1 7/8" tow ball with a 1" shank for the new trailer attach.  Reading the sticker they want it torqued to 250 fl-lbs!  Gah.  I don't think I've ever owned a torque wrench of that capability, I'll ask AH next door if he has something like that.  And if it was 1 1/8" shank they want 450 ft-lbs!!

Tuesday 11 February  2020

Tuesday -Nice weather.

I did more raking of nails with the magnet.  This takes a long time, particularly where it's about 100' of dirt road.  Sheesh.

Monday 10 February 2020

Monday - Decent weather.

I went out and did some rake work, with the magnet attached, and picked up handfuls of nails and screws from the RV shed.  Gahh.  I'll have to do the road to the back yard next.

Sunday 9 February 2020

Sunday - A nice day.

Went into town, did some shopping with S. I was pretty low on consumables.

I had dinner with the neighbors.  Afterwards we watched the Oscar Awards.

They still don't have a master of ceremonies.  What a bunch of freaks though.  And Hanoi Jane was selected to give the award for best picture.  You'd think that with viewership down they'd tack back the extravaganza to center, but I guess it's "roll left and die" as someone once put it. Kind of like the Superbowl going to strippers and b.s. immigration crap for the halftime show.
