Saturday - Rain. After the sweep left I applied a little more FlexSeal to the chimney cap. It was in pretty good shape, but there were a couple of scrapes in the rubber coating from Tikar, so I filled those, and haven't seen any water intrusions.
When I paid him I naturally shook his hand. I am told that is supposed to bring good fortune.
Friday - Decent temps. Light rain here and there.
Friday the 13th is on a Friday, as Jerry Pournelle used to say.
I bought an obstacle feeder for the cats a while back, where they have to fish food pellets out one by one, because Jim bolts his food (and then throws up the undigested mass). It has taken months, but he and Suzy have both figured out how to use it...
Thursday -Looking at my gmail account I realized that my email is now virtually all business, utilities, and the like. Not much personal stuff left, perhaps one in twenty or fifty messages. It's all moved over to texting for the most part.
Wednesday - Decent weather.
The Sandisk iXpand drive is a disappointment. It's slow, it stalls, it skips things and tell you that it's skipping - but not what it's skipping. If you use the one-click backup option it renames all the files with a random 14 digit hash number. It also messes with the time and date stamps on the pictures, both creation and modification. It had good reviews at one time - but the recent reviews are of plaintive complaints from the formerly happy customers going "Hey, what the hell?" after recent updates, and Sandisk technical support indifferently telling them to suck it up. Ugh.
There is a mode where you can individually select files, and move them to a special drive on the drive where it doesn't mess with the dates and time stamp, so I used that.
I had bought two, and gave one to S, but I warned her not to use the "backup" option. She does big videos for work and has been having transfer issues like me.
Tuesday - Reasonable weather.
The Chimney sweep was due, so I haven't run the pellet stove since Sunday night. He showed up right on time and spent several hours going over the stove and flue. He checked the date on the stove manufacture, and even noticed the new exhaust fan, and disassembled the plates and firebrick to clean passages.
There were no issues - a bit of creosote in the flue, but nothing to write home about. And it does transition from 4" to 8" just above the main fireplace, but in a legal and reasonably safe manner. He suggested that at some point it all be converted to 4", but it isn't a hazard.
It is drawing a lot better now, quite the flame, perhaps 150% of what it was, and it lights a lot easier.
And I now have peace of mind, when letting it run for hours (overnight).
Monday -Warming up a bit I guess.
Did some cleaning up around the house, and moving things up and away from the fireplace area, in preparation for tomorrow's work.
The neighbor had made an emergency run for propane yesterday, he was out. He was going to WinCo again today to pick up a Christmas tree, so he called me and we refilled my tank as well. It seems like we just went, but it was very nearly empty, five weeks.
Sunday - A bit of shopping in the morning.
We watched the Bob Hope Christmas special, from 1967 in Vietnam. Kind of a bitter sweet thing to see.
