Saturday - Nice weather.
I got up at 5am and went out to see Comet Leonard 2021. It was near Arcturus and thus easy to find, though just a faint binocular object. Bob saw it too, from Carson City.
I went out and did some more work on the pavers around the steps in back mid-morning. Too much work: four or five 'lifts' of base and sand needed to be compacted with the 10kg tamper, and my hands were really aching afterwards. I laid down about 10 pavers, but I'll have to wait a few days before finishing.
In the evening Roger and I went over to the AVAC Christmas Party, held at the Gino's in the Lancaster Marketplace. It was good!
Friday -Nice weather.
I went out and did some more work on the area that will have paver's around the steps in back. I measured, staked and leveled the retaining 4x4s.
Book #69 was Euclid's Wall, by Michael McCollum. This was an early work, and the writing is stilted and over-expository, even by McCollum standards. Still, silly as the premise was, I enjoyed it.
Thursday - Decent weather.
I went out and cleaned up around the steps by the french doors in back, in preparation for 'finishing' for this year the paver walkway. I quit on this part of the yard work when it hit 117F in the summer.
I took Suzy in for her dental cleaning. I thought there might be a cavity, but there wasn't, so it wasn't insanely expensive. I had hoped they could give her the booster shot, but she was running a slight temperature by the time they finished so they didn't do that. I'll have to take her in next week.
I was forgiven within a couple of hours. Maybe she is getting used to it. Hah. As If.
I also hooked up the bird de-icer. It specifically says that it's not a
heater, it gets above freezing but apparently not too much more, then
shuts off.
Wednesday - Decent weather.
Working on various small projects around the house.
I went out in the evening and tried to collimate the 5se, but only made things worse. It's too awkward out in the cold and dark, I'll try indoors later.
Tuesday - Decent weather.
I plugged in the bird bath heater, and took the opportunity to measure the temperature in the morning. At 33F air temperature the water temperature was a quite decent 50F. Not bad. I generally unplug it during the day, since it's been in the 70's.
I went out in the early evening with the little refractor, but the seeing was terrible, couldn't even reliably make out a belt on Jupiter. And for some reason every dog in the neighborhood was barking, even worse than usual. North, South, East and West, barking mutt's at every compass point. Ridiculous.Monday - Decent weather.
Worked on the app a bit.
Book #68 was SwiftUI Essentials - IOS 14 Edition...., by Neil Smyth. No bad, pretty basic, but a decent start I guess.
Sunday - Decent, cool in the morning.
Went shopping with S in the morning. WinCo was stocked OK, but the 99 Cent Store had shelves as barren as I've ever seen.
Got a text from Bob, he made it home without any problems, unlike the trip down.
Not much else going on. Did a bunch of wash, and the usual
household chores, in the afternoon. Cleaned the bathroom, including a
light pumice stone rub on the commode, it looks much better.
