Saturday - cold and windy. Back in Lancaster, taking care of various errands and chores.
I
tried to get a radio put into the Explorer (no CD player, no Tape
player, now the right radio channel is out), but they put off the
install until Sunday morning. I tried to get an SQL book from the
library, but the automated checkout was borked, and there was a 25
person line, so I just left.
Watching a friends place, petted their cats and dropped off a box of oranges.

Friday
- After work I made a trip down to visit the boat. There is a little issue.
The
little locker in the cockpit has 1/2" drains, and these always plug up.
This time is was from all the ash that had accumulated, I think. It
shouldn't be a big deal, really, as the companionway hatch is well
above this and one might expect it to overflow and drain through the
1.5" cockpit drains. But there is an engine-room vent into the locker,
and so the bilges fill with water if there is enough rain. To make
things even more annoying the vent is directly over the starboard
battery box, and fills it with water as well!
So, with a big storm predicted, I cleared the lines again.

Thursday
- more grinding away at the data in the morning. When I couldn't do
that any more (eyestrain & brainstrain) I worked on scripting
the Manifold database engine to output some stuff for us. I'd call it a
half success, I can do some stuff, but not other things. It's not clear
exactly whats wrong, but the table INSERT isn't going properly, and
given the mess the folders are in it's probably easier to do a GUI
paste-append anyway, but still....
It's been cool in the mornings here in Ventura (the low 50's), but cold in Lancaster - 24F
yesterday. Brrrr. I don't think I mentioned the "near snow" last
weekend there: Saturday night I was over at some friends place watching
some movies. When I left, about midnight, it was cold and quiet, with
that odd muffled quietness that one usually associates with a snowfall.
It was misting, and I am guessing that the mist was snow that melted a
few hundred feet up.
I ran across a link at Archaeoblog saying part of the medieval city wall at Chester had fallen
- and that they discovered another, older Roman wall under it, and
possibly part of a watchtower. Neat. Apparently this has happened
before, the old wall and the new overlay one another in many spots. In
fact, I think I mentioned this, way back in 2002 or 2003, and had a
photo of the old Roman Gatehouse foundations immediately adjacent to
the current gate.
The blue squares to the north are mostly images of the elaborate East Gate Clock.

Wednesday
- grinding through all the still photos I generated last weekend. A
long day. My eyes hurt - I shouldn't be blogging, probably.
Looks like a full moon tonight.

Tuesday
- a long day. I'm not a Microsoft Access guy, but I messed around and
came up with a fairly decent report to output queries from our database
(should it even be finished). The hard part was reading from the
database and then displaying the pictures of the inspection in the
report.

Monday
- back at work. Ten hours of stuff. Mostly video updating, but also
some database programming issues.
I
did get a new phone last weekend - Sunday, actually, so I haven't had a
chance to play with it much. It's the Motorola "Droid" and is pretty
cool. I just couldn't stand the idea of another WM6 PDA.
But I do need to eventually get a spreadsheet reader from the app
store...

Sunday
- No new car radio - it wasn't worth braving the crowds.
I did finish Book #80,
Don
Camillo Takes the Devil by the Tail, by Giovanni Guareschi.
This is the same format as #74The
Little World of Don Camillo,
short entertaining stories of the battles between Don Camillo and mayor
Peppone, and between Don Camillo and his own conscience and priestly
calling. Recommended.
