Saturday - Nice weather. Ice on the bird bath again. I need to hook up that de-icer I guess.
Added some molding, painted black, over the joints between the windows in the front room. It looks OK I think. White, like the master bedroom windows, might look better but it also draws the eye to the windows, and their many other deficiencies. I had no black screws, so I just used a magic marker on the zinc.
Friday -Nice weather.
Bob and Mike came by, and I showed them around the place for a bit, then we all went for dinner at Azteca's down the street.
I gave Bob one of the bird bath de-icers, and a thermally powered fan for his wood stove. I bought it to try out on the oil filled electric heaters that I have, but they just don't get hot enough to provide the thermo-electric system enough juice to turn the fan. It should work OK on his wood fired stove that he likes to run on cold nights (it's just a backup to the central heat, really).
In the evening I lit the pellet stove, the house was in the 70's by morning.
Thursday - Decent weather.
Went over to Mike's for Thanksgiving dinner. Brought some beer and some wine.
It was a great dinner. Turkey, ham, all the fixings. I wish I could eat more, because despite not having much for lunch I barely made a dent in it.
Wednesday - Decent weather, some clouds.
Bob left Carson City, but got stuck on the 395 just an hour or two north of the AV...for four hours. Apparently an RV pulled out in front of a Semi, got broadsided, and they both burned to the asphalt, blocking both the north and southbound lanes.
But he made it, finally, and we'll get together tomorrow for Tday at Mike's.
Tuesday - Decent weather.
I just noticed that the freeze killed off the tomatoes. I'm relieved, and yet at the same time the pleasant daytime weather has had them fruiting and I had golf ball sized green tomoatoes everywhere, now dead.
Went over to Toni's with Aaron, moved the 1973 truck, the 1987 truck, and the 1976 truck, the little lawn roller. Despite our best efforts the backhoe wouldn't start, perhaps the injectors need bleeding. It's been stuck blocking the main drive for several years with the stabilizer legs down - can't even be towed.
Aaron mentioned that the house to the north of him is selling - they are asking $675k for 2000SF on 2.5 acres. Zillow says this place is worth $405k now, about double what I paid for it four years ago.
There was a SpaceX Falcon launch out of Vandenberg - I went out and watched it for a few minutes around 10:30pm, until it disappeared behind clouds over LA to the southwest.
Monday - Decent weather. It got down to 22F last night, there was a skim of ice on the bird bath. I've ordered a de-icer from Amazon (two, in fact, since Bob says the ice in his bird bath is thick enough for puzzled birds to land on!).
Working on app stuff mostly. Also started cleaning up around the house, since I'll probably have Bob and Mike over at some point this Thanksgiving.
Did I mention that Virginia decided against coming down? The wise choice, though I'll miss seeing her. The I5 and Ca-99 traffic is utterly insane.
Sunday - Decent, cool in the morning.
Got up late - Mariachi's in the evening, until about midnight. Glad I put such an effort into soundproofing the windows - I need to continue with that, and made a point of going out and working on the master bedroom window framing. Added a 1x4 over the gap on the outside, and some backing rod. I should probably caulk over the backing rod at some point too.
Didn't do the usual shopping with S, she's down visiting with her dad in Ojai, sounds like a nice relaxing time for her.
Apparently she made an excellent Spetzle that her dad just wolfed down.
Not much else going on. Did a bunch of wash, and the usual
household chores, in the afternoon. Ran the magnetic rake over the front
yard, picked up a surprising number of iron nails, screws, brads, staples,
random bits of wire. I don't think the previous owner ever
cleaned the yard, not in 30 years.
