Saturday 6 November   2021

Saturday - Nice weather, about 80F during the day.

I blocked off the registers for the swamp cooler with foam blocks. I couldn't find the old ones, so I cut some new ones.  I need to get some acorn nuts and hanger screws so that I can do it easier, and so that things look nicer.  I actually bought some hanger screws a while ago, but the garage is such a mess. I also ordered a new side-draft canvas cover for the roof.

I had smelled exhaust fumes and finally tracked it down to a strong reverse air flow down the water heater vent.  Sealing the swamp cooler vents seems to have mostly cured that. I think the dryer and water heater and gas furnace all share a plenum and a single exhaust stack, which is probably not (modern) code.

My brother Bob is coming down for the Thanksgiving long weekend, will stay at Mike's house.  We may invite Virginia, but the drive on the I-5 is so horrible I hate to even make the offer.  It was brutal when I was in my 50's, she's nearly into her 70's now.

Friday 5 November 2021

Friday -Nice weather.

Went over to S's office, picked up some leaves from her place for composting, and some old cabinets that will fit nicely into my laundry room.

As I bought burgers and soda's I was more than welcome.

Thursday 4 November 2021

Thursday - Decent weather.

Took Budd in for a visit, since he seemed to be having some issues.  It's been a few years, so he is due.  Turned out to be swollen anal glands, not worms, so yay!

I had (another) senior moment and forgot to bring my wallet to the vet.  Fortunately Kathy the receptionist knows me, after 20+ years, and said I could just call in with a credit card number when I got home.

I've scheduled the other cats for their checkups.  That will be fun.

I worked on the app a bit.  As in I bought a college-ruled notebook and wrote the name of the app on it.

I did some up with some questions for S, I have been thinking about things.

Wednesday 3 November 2021

Wednesday - Decent weather.

Spent some time setting up a checkup at Kaiser, to get various things done.  Their online portal isn't particularly good.

Closed my HSA account, they'll send me a check for the balance in the mail.

Fixed the switch on the shredder - actually the switch was fine, it was the soft rubber coating on it that had failed.

Fiddled with the app some more.

Tuesday 2 November  2021

Tuesday - Decent weather.

I ordered another coffee maker online.  I know that I have another Keurig (#7) somewhere, but I cant find it.  I generally grind my own, but it's nice not to have a mess and fuss sometimes.

I called Erica yesterday, talked to her about her mom's decline.  It's pretty shocking that it's going so quickly.

I had picked up, at a friend's suggestion, a pumice stone to clean the calcium deposits off the commode.  It's only 4 years old and looked like 30 - but the stone worked great.  I imagine it scratched the porcelain, which will cause new deposits to start earlier, but I'm on septic and can't use strong chemicals to clean with.  It's the best solution I guess.

Sent the code for the parts of the navigation app that I wrote for Kirk to him.  No reply.

Monday 1 November 2021

Monday - Decent weather.

Cold coffee all over the counter in the morning, when I got out of my shower.  Look's like another Keurig (#6?) has bit the dust.

Looking at the canvas cover I found in the storage shed, it's 4'x4'x4', a foot bigger in each dimension than mine.  It's also for a down draft cooler, not side draft.  At a guess Sheryl and Roger found it at a yard sale and gave it to me last year, though I don't actually recall. I will have to look again for the one that I once had, or cut this one down, or buy one that fits correctly.

Did a bunch of phone calls, starting up my Kaiser under Medicare. A number of small items to take care of.

S sent me some nice graphics she's coming up with for the Name app.

Sunday 31 October 2021

Sunday - Decent, cool in the morning.

Did not do the usual shopping with S, I'm pretty well stocked and it's Halloween morning and Roger needs her home...

Halloween went pretty well. The weather was decent, and I counted 80 kids while I was there - not bad for a school night.

My neighbor's brother Scott passed away in his sleep in the morning.  He had had cancer for four years - glioblastoma in his brain - and it was amazing that he lasted as long as he did, in relatively good health. They knew it was coming, he declined rapidly and was on hospice care at the end.

In his sleep, at home, with family - that's the way to go.

Four years to the day since he moved into Aaron's place.

The same day that I moved out here to Antelope Acres, time sure does fly.
