Saturday
- Veterans' Day. A surviving World War I veteran, Ernest Charles Pusey, is 111 years old. Pretty amazing. [via Andrea Harris]
We went to see 'The Wiz' at UCSD
on Saturday. It was a lot of fun - a sparkling production with a lot of
humor. Some of the jokes were contemporary - which means that they've
updated them from a play written in the 1970's. Which is fine.
Of course, now we have to go see Wicked, for the other side of the story.
Afterwards there was a nice party - a birthday party, actually, and that was fun as well.

Friday -
Veterans' Day, observed. It's a government holiday, but the contractors
get it off as well, so I went down to the boat to work on the
electrical system.
It didn't move as fast as I hoped, but I did scope out what was needed,
where to put the new fuse/terminal boxes, bought one terminal box and
some tools and connectors. Marine grade electrical wiring is insanely
expensive - $1.29 a foot for ten gauge stuff! If you buy it in bulk -
100 ft rolls, it is about half that. Perhaps I should do that, but
there is such a mixture of 10, 12, and even 14 gauge stuff that it's
hard to decide what to get. I suppose the higher current stuff - there
are butt connectors that can splice different gauges. They are a dollar
each themselves. Next weekend I'll try to actually get the boxes
installed and working.
My friend Dave came by, and we pulled off a broken piece of interior
cabin trunk lining, so that it can be used as a template to make
another. So I guess that's a win. Then it was off to San Diego, for the
weekend with another friend.

Thursday
- two flights. I asked one of the Gulfstream people what they planned
to do with the spike when they were done with it. He said they'd take
it apart, analyze it carefully, then reassemble it and 'hang it from a ceiling somewhere'. Heh. I was just at Aerovironment the other day - they had all sorts of things hanging from the ceiling.
It's a good place to put bulky (but light) items, I suppose.
Wednesday 8 November 2006
Wednesday
- busy.
A full moon and high clouds have made it impossible for me to see Comet Swan. Oh well, there is always another comet. But it would have been nice to see it for Edmund Halley's 350th birthday...

Tuesday - Two flights. Ackk.
I did manage to get to the polling station and vote, about ten minutes
before the polls closed. It looks like the Republicans lost badly.
Well, they probably deserved to lose, but god knows the Dems didn't
deserve to win.
From ScrappleFace:
Voter Fear Mounts as Election Day Approaches
(2006-11-05) — A palpable wave of fear swept across the nation today as precinct-by-precinct voters began to realize that Wednesday morning they’ll probably wake up to news that, once again, they’ve elected the representatives they deserve.
“I want to vote for someone with personal integrity, honesty, solid
moral character and a vision for the future of this nation that
supercedes personal ambition,” said one Pennsylvania voter, “but
instead it looks like we’re going to get someone who’s no better than
me.”
Heh.
Monday 6 November 2006
Monday - on the road, back to Lancaster. There is a flight tomorrow.
Great news upon arrival
though: my friend Tim, the electrical genius, has tracked down the
wiring fault on the boat's DC main panel!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome! The
insurance company has started bugging me about finishing some of the
repairs, and this will help a lot.

Sunday - those stupid 'Niners cost me a
quarter. I thought it'd be safe betting with the Vikings since they'd
won twice as many games as San Francisco had (four). Somehow they
managed to eke out a loss.
The later game between New England and Indianapolis was interesting. A good game.
