WEEK 43 2020
Last Week- Sun- Mon- Tue- Wed- Thur- Fri- Sat- Next Week
Saturday - Pleasant out. They are currently projecting freezing temperatures overnight, Sunday and Monday. Tonight just down into the 40's.
Didn't do much, pretty tired after yesterdays shenanigan's. I didn't get up on the roof to drain the swamp cooler.
My brother in Palmdale texted that he noticed a couple of houses for sale in his neighborhood, going for about double what he paid 10 years ago. I guess sales and prices are way up right now.
Friday - Nice weather.
Went out and painted for another 5 hours, until the wind came up strong. My hands are worn out. This was the rest of the fascia on the front of the house, some window trim, then the beams and posts at the front of the porch. I wore my good boots, I can't deal with the foot and instep soreness that I get from the old ones, it lasts for days. There isn't too much paint on the Keen's.
There is more work to be done (there always is) but the urgent stuff is done. Bare wood covered, flaking paint scraped and re-covered, stuff caulked. From the street it's not a big deal like the first coat did last year and the year before, but the posts do look much better, and up close it's better. A bit sloppy, because I was racing the calendar, but not horrible.
Cloudy and hazy, not astronomy possible in the evening. A couple days ago would have been perfect, but I was just too tired.
I guess a storm is going to blow through this weekend, temps down into the 30's at night, even a slight chance of rain.
My friend in Idaho sent me a picture of him doing backhoe work in the snow.
I need to drain and winterize the swamp cooler.
Thursday - Warm in the afternoon.
Didn't do any painting, did a lot of laundry and such.
Still reading TOTG, at the section on Okinawa now. I finished the part about MacArthur and Luzon earlier, I'd never really heard of "The Rape of Manila". Horrible.
The Japanese were tough soldiers and in the 1930's considered well-behaved soldiers - with a better set of military leaders at home they would have been a lot tougher and better. Their high command was pretty terrible. They could never have won - the invasion fleet at Okinawa was over 1200 ships - but they could have dragged things out a bit more.
Wednesday - Warm, verging on hot.
I did a little in the morning on the trim, then knocked off. I'm exhausted.
Cleaned up in the garage a bit though. Turning into a jungle with all the work lately.
Talked to Dave on the phone for a bit. He's busy, taking on new work...
Tuesday - Warm again.
I went out and continued painting, finishing most of the window trim, the west gable trim, the vertical trim in four places, fascia over the master bedroom windows and one porch post. Very tired.
Monday - Warm, but OK. AC needed in the afternoon/evening.
The plan was to paint, and that was amended slightly to pain and caulk. I still have unopened caulk tubes left from last year...
In the evening I went out and observed for a while. I just took the binoculars, but it was rather hazy.
Sunday - Hot.
Lots of hopping in town, S and I had missed last week.
Generally I do chores on the weekend, clothes washing and such, but I was just too tired.
A nice crescent moon out.
