Saturday - Still at the San Diego place. More dishes, laundry, gardening, etc.
In
the mid afternoon I went over and watched a girl's soccer game with my
friends Tim & Donna, whose child was playing (their team won). Then
we went to their place, had a nice talk and dinner, watched Detroit
lose, and then it was back to Scripps for me.
The kids have hamsters now:
I believe that it's Sugar on the left, and Chocolate on the right.
And that's Foxy, the new (to them) Pomeranian in the background.

Friday
- Working at the San Diego place. Removed the pool cover motor, steam
cleaned the family room floor, did bunches of dishes, etc.
Jim
is excited by getting the run of the place for an hour or two at a
time. The lady of the house has an elderly scotch terrier that will put
up with his affectionate advances for a while ... but not indefinitely.
Jim - he didn't have a huge appetite for a couple of days, but it seems to be coming back.

Thursday
- Spent the morning getting ready for a trip down to San Diego. There's
a bunch of stuff to do around the house, including a bunch of laundry,
but we got out of town in the late afternoon.
Traffic down, on a Thursday, was nice.
We
took Jimmy, since he needs daily medicine doses, and it's just easier
to do it myself. Since my friend's mother has no cats he can have the
run of the house, or at least a bedroom, which he'll enjoy.

Wednesday
- Up in the early am hours and down to Ventura, then Ojai, then back to
Ventura, then back to Lancaster. A long day. There wasn't actually much
going on at the job site, the contractor is still having problems with
his pumps....
Left the old laptop at the office for my friend to pick up.
I
had to rush back to Lancaster to bring Jimmy to the vet. He had a
terrible head cold, to the point where he was having trouble breathing
and wasn't eating. I went to a new vet, once that gives a first visit
for free. It took nearly two hours to get through the visit, but I have
a bunch of medicine for him, the main one being Amoxycillin for the
infection, and also an appetite increaser and an anti-nausea med. The
anti-nausea med is a small pill that apparently tastes HORRIBLE. Giving
cats liquid I can do, but pills are really a pain to get down them.
I'm
glad I've kept him separate from the other cats, mean as it feels. I
may have to keep him quarantined for another week to ten days....

Tuesday
- Working on this and that. I'm to go down to Ventura
tomorrow for a site visit, so trying to get things organized before
then.
I'm
giving away the old Sony laptop, so I took some time to remove a few
things from it. Not much - it's been sitting gathering dust for months
since re-installing system from the backup partition and then updating
to XP current from the web.

Sunday
- A quiet morning, not much going on. Doing various chores around the
house, playing with the kitten(s).
It was a friends birthday, and his parents were in town, so we all went
out to Don Cuco's for lunch. It was nice, we had a good time.
Interestingly enough his mother had a Droid Razr M that was working
well for her. Her one complaint was that she couldn't reliably text,
even while riding as a passenger, so I showed her how to use the voice
text option. I may have created a monster there... R's stepfather was
there, and he had a Samsung Galaxy S4, and it was dead as a doornail.
He'd been having problems with it from the get-go, and I mentioned that
I had seen various reports of serious issues in the press. Monday he's
taking it into the Sprint store to fix/replace.
Worked on stuff for work. I tried to watch some football, but there
were no teams I was really interested in playing.
I
see that the media is still trying to hang the furlough on the
Republican's, but apparently it isn't sticking very well.
Essentially
Obama wants full control of the budget, contrary to history, law and
custom. When the Constitution was created the budget was very
deliberately placed to be in the hands of
the House, since with the most representatives and the shortest terms
they were considered to be most representative of the actual citizenry.
Deadlock was, essentially, considered a feature and not a bug.
Personally I think they should just stay shut down, maybe shoot for a
new record, 1.5X or 2X the number of days they were shut down last
time...
The only personal inconvenience I've noticed is that APOD, Astronomy
Picture of the Day, is shuttered. Small and Petty are the watchwords
for this administration's approach.
