Saturday 3  October  2020

Saturday - Hot and gross again.  Visibility of just a few miles. Much like yesterday.

I went into town again and picked up another 50 pavers.  No, that's not a cut and paste from yesterday, this was another 50 brick colored pavers, not the concrete color of yesterday.  I also picked up 10 of those, so I should have enough to finish things.

I also picked up two more fire extinguishers, a big one for the garage, and a smaller one for the master bedroom, at the far end of the house.

Too hot to do much after that.

Talked to Dave a bit about about his truck - the 4wd on his F-150 is shifting from 2WD into 4WH on it's own occasionally, which is worrisome.  AH next door suggested a guy down in Littlerock, Valco Transmissions, the guy he uses, so I passed that contact on to Dave.

S asked that I bring the old TV tomorrow, when we shop, so I'll load that up in the morning. She wants to test it out with her gear. Apparently they won't let her into the assisted living to do the setup, but their maintenance staff has had a LOT of practice at it in the last few months, so it should be OK.

Friday 2 October  2020

Friday - Hot and gross.

I did go into town and pick up another 50 pavers, and unload them.  I had to partially take apart the old chain link fence, so that I could stack them where they would be close to where they will be laid.  No sense in picking them up and moving them again, after unloading from the truck.

The remaining tree was limp and sad when I went out.  I watered the heck out of it, and it perked right back up.  Surprising.  I've seen tomato plants do that, but not apple trees.

Thursday 1 October 2020

Thursday - Hot and unpleasant.

I guess the president has tested positive for Covid-19 and is in the hospital, though it sounds like a mild case.  I imagine he gets tested/checked daily, so he hasn't had it long.  His wife and a number of staffers also have it.

Other than the usual nutjobs people have been fairly polite about it.  The D side of the aisle is pushing to suspend/cancel the hearings for the Supreme Court justice, though what that has to do with it is unclear: they are interviewing her, not the president, he's already made his choice...

Wednesday 30 September 2020

Wednesday - Hot and very smokey. Rather gross. The temperature swing was about 50F, from 54F in the morning to 104F in the late afternoon.

In the morning I laid out pavers for the walkway, from the front around the corner to the existing chain link fence.  This is just for fitting.  I used a checkerboard of brick colored and regular cement colored pavers.  I wanted to use tan colored, but they were out.

I thought I would need an extra gap filler along the side of the house, but they fit perfectly.  So I'm glad I took the time to check.

It looks OK.  Now I have to decide on fastening the edging somehow.

I need about another 100 pavers too.  And base, and sand. And a gate.  And privacy slats.

Tuesday 29 September  2020

Tuesday - Actually rather pleasant weather. Clear for a change. Cool at night.

I loaded up the neighbors trash bin with the weeds from Monday (I asked first).  It pretty much filled it, though they were green and bulky and I didn't tamp them down, so it should empty properly.

All this rearrangement has caused the vast numbers of small lizards in the back yard to skitter about wildly.  I feel a bit bad, the piles of paves and tumbleweeds were great shelter from the ravens and owls, but there isn't much I can do about it.

I was trying to do something with the little convertible win10 laptop, but windows decided to do an update.  It took 12 hours to complete.

Monday 28 September 2020

Monday - Warm, but OK.

I went out and started pulling weeds in the enclosed area.  They are a tripping hazard when you are out at night in the dark trying to sky-watch.

I was just going to do part where I usually observe from, but the temperature wasn't too bad, so I just kept going until it was done, piling them in front of the fence on the south side.  It was a huge amount. I needed to clear the area at the side of the house for the pathway anyhow, so it all worked out.

G was supposed to have done it, last month, but school started before he got to it.

I am tired of searching for a RAM truck shell, so I went ahead and ordered the Softopper.  Easily re-sellable if I ever want to do that.

I may still do a quick road trip in mid-October.

Sunday 27 September 2020

Sunday - Hot.

Did some shopping with S at WinCo and the 99 cent store.

I actually didn't have all that much to pick up.

Afterwards I stopped at Harbor Freight and bought a cheap hammer drill.  And a cheap micrometer, to replace the missing unit.  And a torque wrench that goes to 150 ft-lbs, which is needed because the torque for the RAM lug nuts is 130 ft-lbs.

There was some sort of outdoor church meeting going on at the other end of the outlet mall there.  Maybe a corona-virus thing?
