Saturday -
Friday - Nice, but windy as all get out.
I didn't do much - the back is stiff but not too painful, but definitely it's not a "work on the house" day.
I worked on the app - well, actually, I installed another OSX update, and did a bit on the STARS stuff, but it was uncomfortable sitting in office chairs for long.
It was just another Mojave update for the MacBook, the big OSX "Catalina" update isn't even here yet.
My new license plates for the Ram have arrived, and the dash mat: if I feel up to it tomorrow I'll go install them.
Thursday - Nice. A little warm in the afternoon.
The garbage disposal has been broken for a while, and finally plugged up completely, and started messing up the other sink drain. Tiring of the smell I went out into the storage container and found the new unit that I bought at least a year ago and started installing it.
And tweaked my back. I could barely move or stand. I've avoided working under there all year, for just that reason, but started feeling overconfident I guess.
I had to call GH over and talk him through how to do it. Now he knows how, and can avoid a $150 plumbers bill some day when he's out living on his own. Just call me a benefactor to mankind...
That was pretty much the end of any activity for the day. I mostly just sat on the couch and read. I wanted to lay down, but getting up is always a (literal) pain, so I stayed sort of upright. Ibuprofen worked pretty well, so this probably won't be a long lasting episode.
The DashMat cover for the Ram arrived, but I couldn't go out and try it...
The company my sister works for up in Fremont was bought by Western Digital a few years ago. Now WD has sold them to someone else. She expects to lose her job, but says she's pretty sure of a new one almost immediately, it's apparently a hot job market in Silicon Valley again. Not her first corporate takeover and divestiture rodeo...
Wednesday - Hot. 100F.
I'd ordered some new filter cartridges for the fridge, they arrived the other day, and I finally got around to putting one in. I'd run out of bottled water for the coffee in the morning, and it tasted horrible when brewed with water from the tap or the (supposedly filtered) fridge. We'll see if the new filter make it palatable.
Fiddled about with the STARS thing. I last compiled in September of 2017...two years ago. And I can't find my notebook, though the code is pretty well commented. Though I have two slightly different copies of version.10!!
The FreeCad developed have added a UNITS deck and a LGCS deck to the start of the UNV file formats it looks like.
Apparently Python is up to version 3.7 now, and FreeCad understands it. If I wanted to make a GUI interface I could combine the Fortran with Python and numPy and Gtk it looks like. Or get a real compiler and interface kit, Winteracter or the like.
Tuesday - Hot.
I did a bit of work on the app and on STARS. I finally went ahead and ordered a new SSD hard drive for my windows laptop, $65. I'd meant to buy the 1TB unit, but somehow ordered the 500GB version. Well, it doesn't really matter, I don't have use for that much on that laptop, but it might make cloning the drive a bit harder. I think the new one comes with Acronis, but I've had good luck with SuperDuper in the past.
I'd found my USB to SATA adapter that I'd bought for cloning the Mac a year or two ago, on Monday, so I can avoid the expense of buying another one of those.
I went into town and returned some DVD's, and picked up the 2nd disk of Season One of The Last Ship.
While I was on that side of town I went and picked up some more cinder blocks for the front yard side wall from Lowe's. Did I mention dry stacking about 20 blocks to see how it would look the other day? These is just sitting on hard pan dirt for now, which is sometimes a good 10" under a layer of drifted sand. There just aren't funds for a real wall in front until next year.
Monday - Warm.
It's the Fall Equinox too.
The Mac did another update, second or third in a month. I looked at
the app in the iOS 13 simulator, it looks like crap. I'm not sure if this
is real or just a simulator bug. I need to download the sw for the iOS 12
simulators, it didn't download automatically.
Sunday - Warming up, about 90F in Lancaster. Some really hot days are predicted for later in the week. Bah.
I went shopping with S, taking the Ram, it's a bit lacking in space for groceries when compared to the Explorer with the seats down, but we'll figure it all out eventually. She had picked up a large cooler at a yard sale, we may use that for storing stuff.
After some stomach issues last week it occurred to me that I might be becoming lactose intolerant. I'd had ice cream for desert, and milk in my coffee in the morning for the last couple of days, and had some issues. Apparently you can develop it as an adult, so I may just try some OTC pills and see if that seems to help.
