Saturday 19 September 2015
Saturday - Warming up, into the 90's.

I did some yard work, aerating the front lawn in a couple of dry spots. I was using an old 3/8" bit in the 110V drill at first, but a neighbor offered me the use of his "nail shoes" and that worked very well. The ground is so hard that the 1/2" coring aerator I own just bounces off...

I also mowed in back, edged, and fixed a couple of bad yard sprinklers. Several others I need to "raise", as the lawn has raised itself several inches in some places, since installation. It's been nearly 30 years after all.

We went to lunch at the local Miso Sushi, my friend's son requested it, before he heads back to OSU later in the week. It was delicious, and I sort of passed out for the afternoon afterwards...

Friday 18 September 2015
Friday - Nice weather. It's a pity to leave Lancaster when it's nice, but then again, Ventura is much nicer, weather wise. The drivers...not so much.

Working away on household chores, and getting ready for the trip down.

My friends moved the date to Sunday, so I have tomorrow to get things accomplished around here. In particular I need to fix up the back yard sprinklers before I go...

I did go by the library and drop off almost all my checked out books, and picked up some on Joomla and CSS and PHP, and a couple on Windows 8.1. Note to self: bring a mouse for the tablet....

Book #50 was Trapp's War, by Brian Callison. Amusing.

The disillusioned Captain Edward Trapp is coerced into using his ancient rust bucket tramp steamer as a Q-ship during the Battle of Malta.

The story is told from the viewpoint of the first officer, Miller, assigned by the Navy to watch over Trapp and the crew of reprobates aboard the ‘Charon’.

Things go well at first, then, as they always seem to do for Trapp, events turn south. (A running joke in the series, btw, is the helms mans inability to steer other than by sailing directions, “Sou-south East” instead of “160”.)

Entertaining, though in a 70’s sort of way the book felt “thin”. At less than 200 pages it really was, and to a reader used to the massive size of current novels a bit disappointing.

Thursday 17 September 2015

Thursday - Nice weather, actually, back here in Lancaster.

Mostly spent doing errands: mowing the lawn, vacuuming downstairs, cleaning the bathrooms, etc. Returning books to the library, doing bills.

I did put the most recent version of the app on S's iPad, so she's up to date (I really need to get the beta test stuff done so she can update remotely). I also had a chance to observe it in use, with the guardian's permission, and it was interesting to see the child interact with it.

Work starts Monday, so I've a lot of review on that to do. I also need to pack up stuff to take down to Ventura - the twin bed, bedding, clothes, bath stuff, some food... I did pick up the keys from Tim on Wednesday, so that's good.

I was planning on heading south on Sunday, but I have friends heading down that way on Saturday, so I'll probably advance the schedule by a day and they can help take some stuff down.

I've arranged a house guest to keep an eye on the place, so he'll come by and pick up keys tomorrow.

Hopefully I'm home weekends but, particularly at first, that may not be in the cards.

Wednesday 16 September 2015

Wednesday - OTR. It's nice in Ventura, though humid. It rained all the way thru the San Fernando and Simi valleys during last nights drive down, but Oxnard was dry and calm.

Despite which, I slept horribly, and was rather tired all day.

But the meetings with Dave and Tim and the Client and Contractor and County Inspector went well. I now have official full copies of the Specifications and the Plans, so that's nice.

Tim, in particular, has spent a lot of time setting things up for me, and talked me through some of the subtleties of addresses and parcel maps in Saticoy: we even went out and looked at some of the sites. The plans he got from the various utilities weren't very good, but DigAlert has been out and marked stuff up.

We're going to (try to) go digital, so I also picked up the Windows 8.1 tablet I'll be using in the field for the next couple of months, and Tim installed the templates and such that I'll need for the forms. I have a few paper backups too.

I was going to stay the night on the boat again, but the live (bad) music from across the way drove me crazy, so I just went home. There's lots to do in Lancaster anyway, in preparation for next week, and moving down to Ventura temporarily.

Tuesday 15  September2015
Tuesday - Cooling down. It's a "walk" day, but there is too much to do.

S sent the 'official' artwork for the new card suits, so I massaged that as needed, created the @1X versions, added them to the project, added the new text label prompts, symbolic prompts, and the audio prompts for the two new replacement cards, and tested things. It took most of the day, but it seems to work.

Tim called, said we were on for a pre-construction meeting with the contractor and client tomorrow morning, so I packed a few clothes and headed on down to Ventura in the evening. What with one thing and another I didn't get out until nearly 9pm, so arrived at the boat late. Things seem OK there.

Monday 14 September 2015
Monday - Hot and humid, not quite as bad or as hot.

Working on the app. Fixed a bug in the prompt visibility, that I introduced last week. A one line thing.

Reviewing the "in app purchase stuff", so that I can create a beta version for distribution. Apparently it now runs through iTunes Connect. Hopefully it's not as painful as trying to set up a business account with Apple.

Sunday 13 September 2015
Sunday - Hot and humid, still, continuing next week with all sorts of severe weather alerts out, yuck.

I did some minor yard work, then some more garage cleaning. I can get the Explorer back in, with all the paint and cleaning stuff put away. Still horribly cluttered.

I also did some shopping in the morning, for a few groceries, but nothing that will go bad.

Rumor has it that work will be starting up in Ventura soon...

No app work, since it's a weekend. Despite knowing there's an unfixed bug, which really bothers me...

Not much else to say. I picked up another Harry Dresden book from the library, Book #48: Grave Peril, by Jim Butcher. Light afternoon reading.

Book #49 was Trapp's Peace, by Brian Callison. This was amusing and light reading from the library, reminiscent of Alastair MacLean in style, though the protagonist was, at best, an anti-hero rather than Maclean's usual cardboard cutout good guy.
