Saturday - Note: Page Updated 29 August 2019, computer set back up and web composer updated to a 64-bit version.
Well, bought a 2019 Ram Classic 1500. When I checked the usual sites in the morning I found that Victorville Ram had a 4x4 in the Big Horn trim for $29k. I was dubious, but called them up, and they said it was legit. Not even on TrueCar yet. So I asked my neighbor if he'd shuttle me to Victorville on Sunday. After hearing the price he was hell bent on going today.
And it was a good thing. Two other people showed up, in person, to look at the truck as I was test driving and signing papers...
It's good to have reliable wheels, and this is a real step up from the old Explorer. It is the V8 Hemi, with MDS, VVT, 6'4" bed, 4x4 and rhinestones on the spokes. It even has satellite radio for a year: I listened to the Elvis channel on the way home. It synchronizes with the iPhone. Even has a bed liner already.
Technology advances: despite being a 5.7L V8 it gets much better mileage than my old 4.0L V6!
I took my neighbor and his family out to dinner at Mahli's, to celebrate and to thank him for giving me the kick in the butt I needed.
Friday -Hot again, 100F.
I have the Macintosh set up again. After I got it going I went ahead and did updates on OSX, Xcode, and even Blue Griffon, the editor I use to write this stuff. It took hours, particularly the OSX part.
Nothing from the Nissan owner. I guess it's back to looking for a new car. I'm about ready to just take a bunch of money out of savings and buy one cash - I'm sick of this drawn out nonsense. There will be a big tax hit, but it'll be over finally!
Thursday - Hot, about 101F. I didn't do much. I did start assembling some office stuff, for the east office.
Book #30 was Rise of a D-list Supervillain, by Jim Bernheimer. Fourth in the series, lightweight but enjoyable.
LG has a series of "dual inverter" window air conditioners out, that are
quiet and energy efficient. I'm tempted to go and buy one (or two) before
the fall monsoon starts up here and the swamp cooler becomes more of an
aspiration (hah!) than a reality. Or I could wait and get a "dual split"
two head system for about the same money, and more of a permanent
solution.
Wednesday - Stupidly hot, 107F. It was only supposed to be 101F, but the predicted temps have been low this week.
Talked to S briefly, she's packing and buying a bunch of stuff for her mother's move from one assisted living place to another this weekend, down in San Diego. She seems very stressed.
No word from the Nissan owner.
Tuesday -Warm.
The neighbors garden has plants that are well over my head, tomatos, cucumbers, beans, etc. I'm a bit jealous.
This is straw bale gardening, so maybe that's the ticket, or maybe the fact that it only gets about 6 hours of direct sun a day, due to trees and stuff.
I had a lead on a used pickup, a 2002 Nissan Frontier Extended Cab 4-banger with only 55k miles on it. I went over, looked at it, offered the owner $6,500 on the spot...and they refused, said they wanted to think about it. Well, OK. That is actually the high Blue Book value for a vehicle in perfect shape, but looking at Craigslist they might get more than that. But it's all I'm going to pay for an 18yo vehicle, particularly as it wasn't in perfect shape, and had even been in some minor fender bender at some point supposedly.
Monday - Warm.
Pretty tired, really haven't brought anything in from the garage yet.
The measuring guy from Absolute flooring, Eric, came by and measured things, says to come by in a couple of days at their store to pick materials, then they can give me an estimate. I'm thinking LVP throughout, except for the bathrooms, which need remodeling badly. I'd like carpet, but with a cat the pukes on the floor weekly, it really isn't a good idea.
The guy from Lancaster Flooring, Harold, was out on Saturday, same deal.
I really need to get a third (at least) estimate.
And I need to get the minor repairs done, but I'm beat after last weeks cleanup effort.
I'm about to give up on the Ram truck thing, every day I look at some dealers web site, check with TrueCar, nothing. I was hoping for price discounts with the 2020's coming out, and Labor Day, I suppose that's wishful thinking....
Even looking at the Honda Ridgelines again. No Honda dealer has
budged on the price though. It is like buying a Saturn - the price is the
price. But the resale value and reliability is phenomenal.
Sunday - Hot.
Shopping in the morning.
As with all trips into Lancaster I saw someone run a red light.
I swept, vacuumed and mopped, then moved the cats and my bed back into the house, it's been 48 hours.
There were a bunch of what I think are Coyote tracks all around the door to the container in the morning...
