Warm.
The power went out for about 45 minutes in the afternoon. I was still in the temporary accommodations with the cats (I'll take a day or two before exposing the lot of us to any left over poison), reading, and the temperature went up by about 10 degrees, into the low 80's inside.
I was just thinking of starting up the little Pulsar generator for some a/c when it came back on.
A question I had before was: what about the water pressure here during a power outage? The answer is: it stays on, but obviously at a much much lower pressure, perhaps 10 or 15 psi, but it does stay on. This is probably pure hydrostatic pressure from the tank that's about a half mile away, as the crow flies.
Book #28 was The Conquering Tide: War in the Pacific Islands, 1942-1944, by Ian W. Toll. This was very well done. I need to read it again, but the Battles of the Coral Sea, Midway, and the infamous Marianas "Turkey Shoot" make a lot more sense now.
Book #29 was The Old Man, by Thomas Perry. This was a stand alone Thomas Perry (not a JW or BB novel), and the tone and pacing are what you'd expect, a journeyman book. That said, the characters were, for the most part, rather unsympathetic, and the premise a bit iffy. Still a fun read.
Friday - Warm.
Luke, the termite guy, finished in mid afternoon. He used a lot of "product", and said he'll talk to the owner (his dad) about extending his warranty from two to five years. I think he did a good job, and he apparently agrees!
In the middle of the night I heard some commotion, and the two older cats had almost opened the door to the outside. Huh. I would have thought them too frightened. I made sure to secure it and went back to bed.
Thursday - Hot.
Termite guy worked most of the day.
I watched him work, and made sure he was cool and hydrated. A Popsicle now and then. He's beavering away, and trying to ignore his phone: it looks like he had lots of other jobs waiting in the wings.
Suzy came out and ate and drank a little when I penned Budd. It gets pretty whiffy in an 8x12 room with three cats and two litter boxes. The mechanical a/c is working well, but it doesn't have an air exchange function, so I'm pretty attentive to the litter boxes.
Wednesday - Hot.
The cats and I survived the night OK. Budd was in his pen, reasonably content all night, Jim came up on the bed with me, but Suzy never ventured out from under the bed at all. Poor thing.
I'd forgotten how noisy it is in the early evening, the container doesn't make much of a sound barrier - there are dogs, cars, chickens, and eventually coyotes.
Luke, from Vista Termite showed up and started drilling holes. He said two or three days to get it all done.
Tuesday - Warm out.
The house is about as empty as I can make it. Everything is in the garage, and even in there everything is moved away from the walls. Quite an effort, actually.
I moved the cats out into the temporary quarters, away from the drilling and banging that I expect. They were not happy, particularly Jim and Suzy, and even Budd was a bit concerned.
Monday - Warm. Still emptying out the house. The garage is full.
I've also set up the temporary quarters out in the container. Walls insulated, a reasonable sized a/c unit at the ready, a bed for myself and for the cats to hide under, kitty litter and water,
It's remarkable how much difference a half inch of foam insulation makes.
