Saturday 10 July  2021

Saturday - Hot. 111F.

Yesterday there were some thunderstorms, but they all passed well away from here.

I put up a lattice on the porch a while ago to help with the late day sun - I walked into again today.  My head hurts.

I'm used to just walking directly to the front door after watering tree's and such: I need to put up a railing, but I'm pretty tired of working in this heat.

Virgin Galactic had their first paying flight today, it went off pretty well.  Compared to Space X it was a bit of an anticlimax though.

Friday 9  July 2021

Friday -Hot.

Two bolts, four screws, two hours on the roof and it is now mass quantities of cool air.

I hadn't realized how bad the last two motors were...

I need better pads though, the blue artificial just aren't giving me the temperature drop that I should be getting.

Got up to pee in the am hours, Cassiopeia was almost directly overhead, Jupiter at it's peak, though it was very hazy (smokey?).

Thursday 8 July 2021

Thursday - Hot.

I do now have the correct motor and correct base plate for the swamp cooler, so I'm looking forward to getting that installed. The new motor has already failed, so I'm using the expensive mechanical air conditioning again.

Mars is in the evening sky, just a bit from Venus.  In binoculars it is just a red dot, no disc evident.  I think it's only three or four arc-seconds in diameter, no surprise there.

I started putting some lattice up on the front porch, to see if it helps with the late afternoon sun that just bakes the living room area.  We'll see.

Wednesday 7 July 2021

Wednesday - Hot.

In the evenings, after I bring the dogs in, I sit in the garage and let it cool down. It's relatively pleasant, as pleasant as 90F+ can be, and I can see the western sky.  I leave the dog door open at night, and sometimes run the little portable swamp cooler, so it isn't too hot overnight for the kenneled critters.

Bet I'm gonna see that on the next energy bill..,

Tuesday 6 July  2021

Tuesday -Still hot.

Spent almost four hours trying to get the swamp cooler going, used a motor I had and a new base, but it barely works.

S writes that R had another kite hang up in the power lines in Cayucos. They had to call and wait for the power company to get it out.

They aren't comping back until next week.  My reports of the atrocious heat probably aren't too encouraging.

Monday 5 July 2021

Monday -Hot again.

Found a dead squirrel in one of the traps at R&S's place.  Bagged it, and left it out in the desert for the bugs and buzzards...

Orange fuzzy cat hopped into my lap, after two weeks of ignoring me (except for meals).  He nipped me when I tried to pet him though, so we aren't best buds yet i guess.

Sunday 4 July 2021

Sunday - Hot.  112F on the front porch thermometer.

I didn't do any shopping - I'm pretty lazy when there isn't someone around to kick my sorry a** into gear...

S mentioned that re-ordered the "BT" spray for the plants, the first vendor has been unable to deliver for weeks...

R&S are still on vacation.  It was hot enough that I started up the little portable swamp cooler in the early evening, pointed at the dog kennels.  It probably blows out at about 75F, which is much nicer than the garage at 106F.  The garage cools down quickly, but the first few hours, even after I've opened the doors, is a bear.

Independence Day!

Went and watched the fireworks from a road to the northwest of the fairgrounds.  An impressive amount! Apparently Palmdale and Lancaster combined forces this year.

Equally amazing was the vast, non-stop amount of illegal fireworks.  Dozens, hundreds maybe, for hours.
