Saturday 13 July 2013
Saturday - went to yard sales in the morning with R&S. I didn't see much that I wanted - in particular I didn't see a toaster oven. Lots of dishwashers, but no toaster ovens. I did pick up a waterproof clipboard for 50 cents.

Afterwards we went to the new Mahli's down in Palmdale. It was nice - newer and nicer furniture, well air conditioned, and good food. The food is OK in Lancaster, but the decor is about at a Denny's level, and their a/c is anemic.

Speaking of a/c, it got to about 100F, but reasonably dry - in the 10% range - so the swamp cooler worked OK. Since it doesn't look like I'll get around to refinishing the squirrel cage this summer I should replace the insulation at the wall penetration, and put the new pads in. It's always something. I still haven't moved the little window a/c unit outside, so I am using cool house air to cool the coils, which is kind of a waste. It won't quite fit in the existing window aperture....

Another chore is getting the sunscreen up for the tomato plants. S tells me that they won't get fertilized if they get too hot. And indeed, those most exposed to the sun are big and healthy looking but have few or no tomatoes.

Friday 12 July 2013
Friday - Keeping busy, doing various things.

Thursday 11 July 2013

Thursday - back to work, bills, chores, refinance nonsense with the bank.

I did read a few books over the holiday. In order of personal enjoyment:

Book #27 was On The Razor's Edge, by Michael Flynn. This is the fourth in the 'Shadows and Hounds' series, and good-to-excellent, though it really needs to be read along with the rest, not much of a stand-alone book.

Book #28 was Abaddon's Gate, by James S. A. Corey. This is the third in his 'The Expanse' trilogy. Well done. I had done the pre-order thing for my Kindle, and "bing", it just showed up at the beginning of July!

Book #29 was The Mists of Everness, by John C. Wright. Eh, ok I guess. This was the sequel to The Last Guardian of Everness. It wasn't as bad as Hellhole, but lacked most of the sparkle of some of his other stuff.

Book #30 was Hellhole Awakening, by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Terrible.

Wednesday 10 July 2013

Wednesday  - A dreadful night and morning, a bit better in the late afternoon and early evening.

Tuesday  9 July 2013
Tuesday -  Still sick.

Monday  8 July 2012
Monday - As usual, feeling a bit ill upon return. Sick building syndrome, stress, a deep unconscious hatred of the Antelope Valley?

But I was very happy to see Riley, in good health and spirits, and he was reasonably glad to see me.

Sunday 7 July 2012
Sunday - OTR, in Cayucos! But back to Lancaster in the afternoon. Sigh.
