Saturday 26 June  2021

Saturday - Hot.110F.  But it's been like that all week.

My brother's friend Kathleen wanted to see the dogs, so they came by for an hour or so.

Then we all went to dinner at a new place Mike had heard of, The Raven's Nest.  I ordered what I though was going to be a steak Cesar salad, but instead it was entire pieces on steak, soft and delicious, on a bed of lettuce.  Very very tasty, and expensive, but Mike was buying, so...

Friday 25 June 2021

Friday - Hot.

The swamp cooler motor finally failed.  I knew it was coming, but hoped I'd have a few more weeks.  I had a replacement ready to go, always thinking ahead, that's me.

Only it was a different size and the base plate is different.

Since there wasn't a 1hp motor available I ordered the motor plate for the 3/4 hp motor - I usually run the cooler on low, so on high it should be between the 1hp and 1/3hp settings on the old motor.

Thursday 24 June 2021

Thursday - Hot.

Went into town, checked on cats and veggies, everything was fine. I stopped by Win Co first, and picked up some snacks and a couple of pre-made Hoagies, so I'm set to spend an hour or so there.

At Sheryl's behest I picked any ripe fruit or veggies, so that the plants will keep producing.

The fresh mulberries off the tree are extremely sweet.

S reports that the beach is cool and foggy, and that the crowds for the 4th haven't arrived yet.

In the mid evening, just after sundown, I was sitting out back with the dogs, throwing the ball for them to fetch.  And I thought to my self, "What a pleasant evening, I wonder how hot it is?"

Checking, it was 91F with a 23mph wind blowing.

The desert changes you, man.

Wednesday 23 June 2021

Wednesday - Hot.

Tuesday 22 June  2021

Tuesday - Hot.

Went into town, checked on cats and veggies, everything was fine. They have the central air set to 80F, which is understandable, but a bit of a disappointment for me.

Monday 21 June 2021

Monday - Hot.

Doing various things.

The dogs were fine overnight. I put the kennels where the draft from the cool house air will blow right on them.  Swamp coolers need exits, so this works fine, though they don't really seem to mind heat much.  But I feel better about it.

I did get a small nip from Marko, when I picked him up to put him in his kennel.  It wasn't serious, didn't break the skin, but we will spend some times making friends with each other in the next few days.

I'll be driving into town every other day to check on R&S's cats. They just put new central air into their house, so it should be nice.  I am also to keep an eye on the tomatoes and veggies that S has in the back yard.

Sunday 20 June 2021

Sunday - Hot.

I didn't do any shopping - I'm actually pretty well set, since I know S is gone for a few weeks I've been stocking up.  And there's always the little market.

S stopped by with the dogs, and we unloaded them and their kennels.  I'd cleaned up in the garage so there was plenty of room, and everything was ready to go in the yard as well.
R&S will be at a small place they refer to as "the hut", right on the beach for three weeks. I believe their daughter and son-in-law will visit Cayucos over the week of the 4th.
