WEEK 25 2021
Last Week- Sun- Mon- Tue- Wed- Thur- Fri- Sat- Next Week
Saturday - Hot. Not doing much.
S will drop off dogs tomorrow.
Friday - Very hot again.
S reports that the pirate ship arrived safe and sound at its new home. They texted that "The Jolly Roger got a spa day with a full vacuum and wash today."
I set up the mister, and even dragged a piece of artificial turf that someone had given me to s apot near the walkway and awning. It might keep the dirt down, though they like to use the wading pool, then roll in the dirt.
I magnetically swept, but that only gets the top stuff, and they churn up new sharp stuff every time they visit.
Thursday - Very, very, very hot, 114F. Hottest day of the year so far. With occasion hot thunderstorm rains and rolling thunder.
I backed the RAM in, and after so issues dealing with the trailer's own jack sinking into the soil, pulled the whole kit and kaboodle out into the side yard. Everything seemed to roll just fine.
Sheryl arrived, with Dickie's BBQ, and we ate, and then the buyers appeared.
They were quite happy with everything, but S and I spent some time checking them out on it, and tying down a few items for the trip. Since they decided they didn't want the cat pee treated tarp there were some things that might blow away/off at highway speeds.
They had an F-150, and were quite used to pulling heavy things - horse trailers, mermaid tanks, etc...
The buyer is the proprietoress of SHeroes, who specialize in mermaids. They were quite happy to see the mermaid figurehead...
After they left S and I went inside and I had her sit under the swamp cooler, in front of the mechanical air on full, and a fan - someone was near heat exhaustion. Finally she went home, and, she claims, got into her pool, then slept for a couple of hours.
I napped for a couple of hours myself, somewhat interrupted by disgustingly warm cats wanting to cuddle on my chest.
Wednesday - Very very hot, 109F.
I did more cleanup and such in the back yard, and in the garage, where we will put the night kennels. It's unsafe to leave them out for the coyote's!
I was utterly drenched with sweat and aching and decided to order myself a nice hot pastrami from the local market.
Who stopped making anything but burgers and pizza as on last Sunday :-(
I ordered the burger, but what a let-down.
Pirate ship buyers are arriving tomorrow - they decided to visit a relative in Lancaster and that couldn't happen until Thursday for some reason. So it goes.
Tuesday - Hot. Like 106 hot.
I didn't do much, other than water the tree's and plants.
I did start cleaning up the back yard in preparation for the yearly Chihuahua invasion.
I'm not going to the coast, so I'll have four of them for a little over three weeks. I've a new square awning, for more shade, and I've got the mister out of storage. I'll set up the kennel, and the awning, and the mister, and a wading pool made from a kids plastic sand box.
It's truly astounding how much cr*p accumulated in a year. But the walkway is done, so that should help keep things cleaner and more organized.
Monday - Very hot.
S showed up with the new tires, and I put them on. It was very hot and I was very sore and a bit dizzy by the time I got done.
Still, good to be another step closer to getting it out of the RV shed.
The temperatures are supposed to be in the 110's for the rest of the week - maybe 108 on Wednesday. I already have the mechanical a/c units running, to help the swamp cooler, but when it goes over 105F it's best to just turn the swamp cooler off, it's blowing 80F+ air out. And this year, because I couldn't get cedar pads I just have the blue stuff, which isn't as efficient.
Sunday - Hot.
I left late morning for Lancaster.
I kind of wanted to stay, but there was stuff to be done in Lancaster - the pirate ship sold, and the buyers want to pick it up Wednesday, so I need to get the tires back on tomorrow, and probably pull it around the block to make sure there aren't any holdups.
Traffic going north was heavy. At first I thought my air conditioner had failed on the Ram, and it was over 100F on the I-15. Then I realized that the little button on the dash wasn't pressed. I leave it on all the time, so it didn't occur to me to check it. I carried a bunch of stuff too/from the party, so it probably got bumped at some point.
The trip home too a bit longer than it should have. I was one lane over from the CA-138 exit, but apparently something happened there, and I was unable to get off the freeway there. No big deal - I just went on to Victorville or whatever it is, stopped for lunch, and then took the back way to Lancaster. For the first 20 miles there were a lot of other vehicles: my guess is that Waze or whatever was routing them around the I-15/CA-138 mess. Eventually they all turned away and I more or less had the 128 to myself going west. Weird.
