A Year Ago, This Week
Saturday 24 May 2003
Saturday - vacation.
Friday 23 May
2003
Friday - off to San Diego.
Thursday 22 May 2003
Thursday - a friend found another baby bird, so I brought it in to C. So, she has four
now! It's some sort of crow or raven, much bigger than the others, hungry
and loud, so she is keeping it separate from the others. Another friend found
some sort of hawk fledgling being mauled by a cat, and turned it in to "Ranger
Frank". I guess its that time of year. Apparently it wasn't hurt badly and
is doing well, to everyone's surprise.
It's turned hot, in the eighties and nineties, overnight. Amazing.
Wednesday 21 May 2003
Wednesday - well, the Sunnydale in Buffy, and most of Florida in Enterprise have a lot in common now.
Watching cats is fun, sometimes. When they've been separated for an hour
or two they are quite suspicious on meeting again. A careful stare, then
a cautious sniffing of noses, and then of hind ends ensues. Since they've
been together most of their lives this seems a little overboard. Was there
some sort of "Attack of the Pod Cats" in cat prehistory?
Speaking of critters, while eating lunch today we saw several small sparrow
fledglings that had fallen from a nest. One had died, but the other two were
still alive. The nest was unreachable, and while the parents were still fighting
off the occasional raven things looked bleak. So, my friend C took them home. Only to find another little lost flier at her house. So, now she had three! The vet says about a month before they can fly on their own....
Tuesday 20 May 2003
Tuesday - well, I assumed they'd kill off Buffy, but not
so. Well, if it didn't work the first two or three times it was probably
a good idea not to try it again.
Monday 19 May 2003
Monday - still tired.
Sunday 18 May
2003
Sunday - My sister and family arrived Saturday
afternoon, and we all had a nice dinner out, followed by a trip to Disneyland
the next day. Poor guys, they had to drive back to San Jose afterwards! A
looonnng drive after a day spent in the sun at Disney.
I'd write more, but I'm beat. Maybe tomorrow.

Photo Notes: Portrait of the artist as a young girl.
Riley does indeed have blue eyes (crossed as well) and dark ears. Note the
phonetic spelling of Riley's name - the other cat, Phoebe, was spelled FEBEY.
I'm impressed! Alas, I didn't take a picture of that drawing.
