WEEK 1 2022
Last Week- Sun- Mon- Tue- Wed- Thur- Fri- Sat- Next Week
Saturday 8 January 2022
Saturday - Coolish.
The auger stopped working in the pellet stove. This is a new unit, less than a year old. I'm kind of peeved, the original motor lasted nearly thirty years. Talking to Aaron about it he mentioned that his friend Fred up in Yerington has a similar unit. It's been sitting outside, but a 90's era motor might be better than the current Chinese cr*p. It's an 800 mile round trip, so it would cost more in gas than buying another motor, but...
Anyway, I need to take the stove apart and test the auger motor first, it could be one of the safety switches kicked it off.
I have to install the new convection fan anyways, though that should be easy.
Friday - Not too much going on
Pretty dang tired and sore, after yesterday's exertions.
I have the latest 'Wearing the Cape' book, #9, but decided to
reread the previous #7 and #8 because there was a lot
going on in them.
Thursday - Decent weather.
The boat is reasonably dry after running the little heater over night. It was, in fact, rather cold by morning so I'm glad I remembered to bring it!
Spent the morning, maybe 4 hours, just scrubbing the outside deck and cabin after clearing the cockpit and lazarette drains. Lots of dirt and algae and bird dropping and leftovers. It looks better now.
Headed home in the early afternoon.
Wednesday - Overcast weather.
I had a quick meal at Carl's with Dave and Tim, then we headed down to the boat.
There was a little bit of water at the floorboards in the boat when I got there. For some reason the two bilge pumps in the deepest sump didn't work.
The lazarette drains were partially clogged, so that allowed rainwater to build up, then flow through the engine compartment vent into the interior. Someday I'm going to fix that. Bigger drains and no vent is the idea.
But a couple hundred pumps with the little hand pump got the water out, and I'd brought down a little electric room heater and set that to dry things out. It isn't too bad, and teak and holly don't really absorb water so it was a decent evening.
Tuesday - Decent weather.
Dave wants some help with something, so I'll head down to Oxnard
tomorrow.
Monday - Decent weather.
I received a text back from Dr. Gupta, wishing me a happy new year.
Went for a small walk.
Last night I placed my tea kettle on top of the pellet stove and measured the temperature after a few hours. Just over 100F, so no boiling humidifier is going to work. Bah.
My new convection blower showed up on the doorstep for the old Whitfield pellet stove - the old one was getting noisier and noisier, clearly the bearings are giving out. In addition to the noise it would not run on low, just medium-high and higher.
Sunday - Decent enough weather.
The new keyboard does indeed wake up the Mac Mini, and works in general, so that's good. For $200 it ought to.
It is very dry indoors, and I see that they make cast iron humidifier 'kettles' that you can put on top of woodstoves to help humidify your house. I might look into that.
There was a wind driven wildfire that burned through a town near Natali
in Colorado, but she was OK, though for a brief while they were on an
exvacuation pre-watch or something. Having gone through the
conflagration in Napa a few years ago I guess she was pretty spooked.
Saturday 1 January 2022
Saturday - New Years Day!
Technically Week #1 should only have a single day in it this year, today, but I'm way too lazy and am just going to lump it in with the next week..
It was quiet, not a lot going on. Sent some texts and emails to
friends and family.
I took Roger and Sheryl over to the Mahli's in Palmdale for lunch. I had to buy a new 'Magic Keyboard' for the Mac Mini at Best Buy, so it seemed like a good way to start the year. I also wanted to buy some Air Pods, but they didn't have any.
The big Staple's next door is gone.
