Thursday - Hot again, about 90F.


Ordered new glasses form 39DollarGlasses.com. They are cheap, but my HSA bank still hasn't sent me anything.  If I don't hear from them by the end of the week I'll find someone else.  Two weeks for an application is ridiculous.


I spent the entire morning on the roof, prepping the swamp cooler.

It went well enough, though I couldn't find my box of parts, and had to drive to the little local hardware store for a new pump.

I also took a level up to the roof, and I can see one corner of the swamp cooler pan is high - maybe the roofing guys messed it up.  It's an older fiberglass unit, and the 1/2" is enough to make it leak at the low corner, which has stained my nearly new room.  Annoying. Since it's attached to the plenum I didn't mess with it today, later, when it's cooler, will be fine. It's probably a two man job.

I ran it for the rest of the day, and it was nice having cool air. It's actually a bit humid, around 20%, but it was able to keep the house quite pleasant.  Suzy went and laid under the register...

The water fill/bypass valve down in the garage is leaking.  One more thing to fix.  It looks like it was glued to the existing line, which is more work to repair :-(


I did find the old "mechanical" a/c, under a pile of tarps, whilst looking for the tote of swamp cooler stuff.  It's a Kenmore 12,000 BTU window unit that came with the house.  It would be nice for those humid fall days. I have another 12,000 BTU unit that I bought a few years ago (somewhere down towards San Diego with Tim's help), and also a 8,000 and a 5,000 BTU unit. If I put in solar this would be 'free' to me. A 12,000 BTU unit pulls about 1Kw.

Pretty darn tired for the rest of the day.

Wednesday - Warming up to about 90F.  I need to get my swamp cooler going!

I went into town for an eye exam, things went pretty well.  I am more far sighted than I was, but still amazingly nearsighted. Rather than using "drops" I had a photo taken of the inside of my eyes - pretty neat.  Things are OK, the left eye is astigmatic and has a scar on the retina, but that's not news to me.  First time I've seen it myself though.

I took the opportunity to go to Walmart and pick up a few things.

My neighbor went into town for propane while I was gone - "missed him by that much", to coin a phrase. I'm pretty sure I'm almost out. The tank is about 200# full, so I try to go with him.  Also he has a Costco card and I don't right now.


Worked a bit on the app in the afternoon. Turned on high contrast, and mouse cursor detection, and used a darker theme.  I really need those reading glasses.

Tuesday - Warming up, though the house stayed coolish, due to keeping windows open in the overnight.  But hot weather is predicted for the next 10 days.

We are currently experiencing a huge number of "mosquito hawks" out here - the cats are gleefully tracking them down and swatting (and occasionally eating) them. And the cats don't particularly care when they knock down and break in the pursuit of these harmless critters.

App debug stuff, nothing exciting to report. Watched a bit of Linda.com video on Xcode.

Finished Season 3 of Traveler's.  A bit dark...

Monday - Warm, humid, some clouds in the afternoon.

I did the morning walk with friends, a bit of house cleaning, then worked on the app for the rest of the day.

As I suspected: part of what appears to be a memory leak is really just System caching images used for cards.  There are 72 of these, and after ten or twelve hands most are cached and the increases are mainly due to what appears to be an actual leak, that I am in the process of finding.

In the evening I watched "Travelers", Season 3, the third and second to last episodes.  Tomorrow will be the show and series finale: Protocol Omega.

Sunday - Easter Sunday.

Decent weather again. A bit warm and windy in the afternoon.


I didn't do grocery shopping with S.  The leg was bothersome, but usable, but I had plenty of groceries, and I have to go into town in a couple of days for an eye exam anyway.

I watched a bit of teevee in the background while reading some iOS stuff  - "Godzilla 3" on Netflix, which ended rather darkly, and several episodes of "Ultraman", again a bit dark, though I didn't watch the whole season.


I did several loads of wash, and assembled and used the new vacuum.  It works very well, and the carpets desperately needed it - my sole complaint, so far, is that like all "bagless" units that I've owned the collection cylinder is far too small for a house with three cats, I am forever emptying it.
