Saturday - Spent the morning and early
afternoon checking out the yard sales with R and S. About 2:00pm we
knocked off, picked up their boy and headed off to a favorite sushi bar
in town for lunch. Then I drove everyone home, and went home myself and
napped for a bit. Then in the evening we went out to the LPAC for a
performance by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. It was a lot of fun.

Friday
- S
came by, and we took some more pictures - a toy duck, pig, frog, and a
glass of juice. We uploaded those we liked to a Google Drive account,
so that our photo person can edit them for the app.
While we
were photographing the objects outdoors she noticed that the accursed
"roly-poly bugs" were in my tomato beds, attacking the stems of my
tomatoes. I had checked yesterday, and there were none! So we grabbed a
couple of scoops and liberally sprinkled diatomaceos earth around the
base of each stem. I'll hit them with poison, too, when it cools off a
bit.
It's warm - I turned the swamp cooler on. In the high 80's, supposed to be 95F tomorrow. Spring is done for Lancaster!
I
got a bit of work done on the app, but spent a lot of the morning
cleaning house - I didn't get much done last weekend, and this weekend
is a yard-work set aside, so it needed attention. I don't care for
living in a messy house much.

Thursday
- Working on the app again. This was hard - not as brutal as Tuesday,
but not as easy as Wednesday. Some of the design and language decisions
by the Apple Objective-C Cocoa people are a bit ... interesting. The
words "baroque","byzantine" and "pointless" come to mind, but I guess
things are what they are.
In the evening I went to see "The Best of Both Worlds"
at the local theater. A friend, still working at NASA, wanted to go and
was getting all dressed up in a costume. It turned out to be
surprisingly fun, with a screening of the old Season 3 cliffhanger,
rescanned to Blu-Ray being presented, plus a little "making Of..."
video and a bloopers outtake. I took a photo of the NASA Dryden gang in
the lobby - poor lighting for my little cellphone, but you can get the
idea of what was going on...

Wednesday
- Spent a bit of time reviewing submittals on the job. The contractor
is nearly done on the first site, and will transition to the next site
soon. We discussed my going down to Thousand Oaks to check on things, but we have a very
experienced inspector so there's no real need. Best to save hours for
the rest of the job, which is slipping because of the bird nests found
on site.
I see our completely graceless president has decided to snub Britain by refusing to send anyone to England
for ex-PM Margaret Thatcher's funeral. When ex-President Ronald Reagan
died she flew to California and stood for hours in the hot sun at his
funeral. Just when you think Obama can't get any smaller and meaner he
proves you wrong.

Tuesday
- This was a really brutal day working on the app. Sometimes you get
the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. I spent all day trying to do a
task that should have taken five or ten minutes :-(
I'm not sure if I'm
getting older and stupider or whether I was always this dumb.
I changed the bed sheets finally.
That sounds odd, but I'd been using some nice flannel sheets over the winter, and it's been
getting warm. I had a set of decent cotton sheets I'd bought last year,
but couldn't find them and was delaying in buying a new set. It turns out that they were in their little
duffle, which is much smaller than even a shoe box, and I'd just been
overlooking them, scanning for a big package like the one the flannel
sheets came in. Huh.
I'll probably switch to sleeping in the north
facing room, too. I note that the cat has already taken to sleeping in there (on my pillow!).

Monday
- A good day, got a lot done on the app. Storyboards are different from
Xib's, but once you get the idea it goes pretty quickly. Sometimes
Xcode will lose track of where you are, and you might have to close and
re-open, or delete a view and recode it, but eventually things work.
Because of the way the mane grows on a Fjord it can be sculpted into interesting patterns.

Sunday
- A warm day. Summer is coming, though it's only mid April. I actually had to turn the swamp cooler on.
There were a couple of more photo's we needed, so we headed over to a
local riding school and took a bunch of pictures of their horses. The
school caters to the disabled, (the owner L and S are old friends) and their horses were friendly and approachable.
S
was a little surprised that I wasn't nervous around them. Growing up in
rural areas we kids always had friends and neighbors with horses,
though none ourself. So it didn't even occur to me to worry, once I
realized they weren't wild....
These were cute Fjords,
which look like small draft horses. Think of the horses for the
Budweiser truck, scaled by 50%. Despite their size they are
actual working horses, not so much a show breed.
