Saturday
- mostly laid about, watching TV, trying to breath with 30 pounds of felines on my chest.
Friday 24 April
2009
Friday
- a reasonably productive day, then back on the road to Lancaster. The cats were happy to see me, though the priorities are
- Check the front of the car for interesting dead bugs
- Sit on Eds lap for hours
Thursday 23 April
2009
Thursday
- a long day, almost 13 hours, though some of it was driving about
again, trying to find channels and their access points. The fog came in
on Wednesday night, it was cool and damp almost all day.
Wednesday 22 April 2009
Wednesday
- cooler yet. Mostly spent in orchards, trying to find the fifty or
hundred foot concrete structure - in thousands of feet of unmaintained
channel - that needed to be inspected.
As mentioned before - farms only look
tranquil, from a distance. Up close and personal they are full of
trucks, generators, pickers, laborers, graders, and all sorts of stuff.
Tuesday 21 April 2009
Tuesday
- cooler today, in the low 90's. Acckkk. But the inspection is starting to wind down. I can't say that I'll miss it too much, but I'm going to need an exercise program to keep the weight off when I'm not walking about 8 to 10 hours a day.
Monday 20 April 2009
Monday
- hot, hot,
hot. 102F
where I was. Fortunately there was some shade - not a lot - and we
brought along a lot of ice water. Also I'd bought a new straw hat
yesterday, as the old one's brim fell off.
It was hard to sleep last night, it was so hot. This rental has no
air conditioning - after all, who would need that in Ventura?
Tonight it's down to 71F, at 9:00pm, so there is hope for better rest.
Sunday 19 April 2009
Sunday
- got up late, did chores until noonish, then went out. It was hot out
- really
hot, 90F,
in Ventura!
I finally broke down and bought a USB wifi antenna for the Sony laptop.
The laptops built in wireless is failing, and has become almost useless. I did
a bit of checking about, and the Dlink
WUA-1340 will also work with Linux out of the box (supposedly), so
when I am done in Ventura I can use it on the upstairs Linux machines in Lancaster. If I
ever get around to doing anything with them. I bought more RAM in
January, still haven't installed it, or turned them on since that first
trial.
In the current situation, the wifi dongle works very very well. No dropouts
whatsoever. It does take up one of my three USB ports, but that's OK.
