WEEK 11 2020
Last Week- Sun- Mon- Tue- Wed- Thur- Fri- Sat- Next Week
Saturday - A bit dryer. I took a short walk.
Book #10 was The Seventh Decimate (Great Gods War #1), by S. R. Donaldson. Interesting, but the characters were not all that well drawn. Almost a very detailed sketch or outline of a novel, rather than the novel itself. I've actually had it laying around the house for weeks - it's a library book - and it was due to be returned, so I finally read it.
I have the sequel as well.
Friday - Sprinkles still.
I went into Kaiser and got some of the skin cancer stuff frozen off. When that heals I can use a scrip for some topical chemotherapy cream, which kind of makes you look like you have leprosy. Something to look forward too.
About noon all the major storms had passed, so I plugged in the Mac Mini and let it update even more updates. The MacBook is up to date, and you don't want to 'migrate' from a new OS to an older version, according to all the guides.
There is something to be said for not 'migrating' at all, and doing a fresh install of everything except user files - to avoid 'bitrot' in the user account.
All sorts of Corona-virus news, lots of cancellations and stoppages, and of course people cleaning the stores out of hand sanitize, toilet paper, frozen foods and a lot of other stuff.
Seen online: "I envisaged the End of Days to be more exciting than starving to death trapped in your own house while wiping your bum on a sock".
Book #9 was Outcasts of Order (Recluce Saga #20), by L.E. Modesitt. No surprises, though the guys girlfriend/finance comes across as a bit of shrew to me, rather than the cool and independent types I think M is drying to descibe her as. Maybe it's the audio narration.
Thursday - Gray and overcast. Sprinkles. Then thunderstorms, so I had to turn off and disconnect all the computers. Bah.
Setting up the Mac Mini. It is taking forever, because of the vast number of OSX updates that need to be downloaded.
Also trying to update my developer's credit card expiration date at Apple. This took over two hours...
Disneyland in Anaheim closed. S texted that that was finally enough for the CSHA organization that she is a member of, they canceled too.
She's also having flooding issues at her office, Ugh.
Wednesday - Fog in the morning. Rain and overcast later. Nice to be able to run the pellet stove again.
The external drive for the MacBook arrived, so I'm doing a backup. I'd turned off the MacBook for some reason, and it took multiple tries to get it to boot. I guess the money on the Mini is well spent.
S has a professional conference down in Anaheim. Astoundingly they are still planning on holding it next week, as of this AM. I can't believe they'll go through with it, companies are cancelling this kind of thing left and right, the liability exposure itself would be enough to cancel.
Tuesday - Rain.
My brother in Carson City texted that there is a nice morning alignment of planets, no chance to see it here right now.
He also says that people are raiding the stores up there too, but that he's reasonably prepared. Well, they are mostly ex-pat Californians in Nevada, panic and stupidity are their normal ways of life anyway.
Monday - Kind of overcast.
Working away on various things. Trying to get my ducks in a row for backing up the MacBook. Waiting on a backup drive.
S went by the store again, said things were completely wiped out, from being reasonably stocked yesterday.
Sunday - Daylight Savings started last night. I wished someone had mentioned it to me.
Met up with S (a little late) and we did some shopping. The stores were not particularly busy, despite rumors of 'runs' on things.
I did various chores around the house.
Did a bit more on getting those fruit trees in. Pretty much done there. It's all a bit late getting in the ground, hopefully everything will live. I do need some anti-chewing measures around the trunks of the trees, until they get larger.
