WEEK 10 2020
Last Week- Sun- Mon- Tue- Wed- Thur- Fri- Sat- Next Week
Saturday - More nice weather.
I went into town, picked up a few things for the tree's out back, and some chain link fence hardware. That's for the fence for the side yard. But I couldn't find a gate - both Lowe's and Home Depot had exactly 1 each, and each was damaged: crushed and bent. Bah.
I might make a little spread sheet and see how the cost of a chain link fence compares to a block wall. Block is more attractive and lasts forever, but CL is probably half the price.
Friday - Nice weather.
All the trees are in the ground, but I need to do some landscaping and mulching about them.
New CDC guidance out, older people should avoid large gatherings. Older being 60+.
I got a couple more texts from people about the runs on stuff at stores:
From
L:
No
water at Costco. No TP, bleach, paper towels, and distilled vinegar...
From
V:
I
came back from Safeway a while back. Selling out of water, hand
sanitizers, masks. The bleach isle was not empty but there was a lot
of clear space on the shelves.
Thursday - Nice weather.
I went and bought a Mac Mini at Best Buy the other day, since the ancient MacBook is starting to exhibit signs of not wanting to start up. I need to set it up and transfer everything over, I think there is some sort of Apple provision for that. It's only an Intel i5, compared to the i7 in the MacBook, but it's an 8th generation i5 hex core and should be about 2x the speed.
They didn't have one set up like I wanted, but you can still add RAM to a Mini, and hard drive space is easy to add on with an external drive for non-developer stuff. The Mini actually has far more ports than a current MacBook or MacBook Pro.
I was making some hard boiled eggs, and forgot about them until I heard weird noised in the kitchen. I'd boiled the water away! They were, however, quite edible, being roughly the texture of a egg cooked in a fry pan.
D said his airline has agreed to cancel the reservations. Makes sense, they are going to need a lot of good will to get through the coming slump in people flying.
Wednesday - Weather pretty decent again.
D mentioned that he had plane tickets for a trip in a couple of weeks, and was trying to cancel, but the airline is resisting... I told him you couldn't pay me to get on an airliner right now, COVID-19 is just too contagious.
Tuesday - Cool here in town, but not cold.
I haven't used the house heaters in weeks it seems like. The house is eerily quiet without a heater or cooler running in the background.
The Corona virus continues to run wild in China and elsewhere. It's in the USA now, and the CDC response is...underwhelming. Criminally slow and incompetent would be a better description, actually.
We are starting to get "runs" on things at the stores: S texted that "Stopped
by 99 store to check out sanitizer. Completely wiped out. Beans and rice
depleted too. "
Monday - Slightly overcast, nothing special.
I headed back up to Ojai, picked up S, and we headed home, stopping for lunch at the In'N'Out on the I-14 at Sand Canyon. She had a good visit, and I feel better about the boat.
Sunday - A nice day in Ojai.
We left about 11 in the morning. After arriving in Ojai after a nice drive we had lunch with her dad in a place just outside the east side of town. Delicious ham omelet for me.
Afterwards I headed down to the boat.
A weather front was predicted to blow in, and as I arrived I could see it out at sea. Overnight it sprinkled a bit, but nothing special. Times are better and B dock is almost fully populated with boats. Annoying noisy owners too. Bah. They eventually quieted down after 9pm.
I was pretty tired and didn't do much on the boat, but it didn't need much, dry and tight! Dave called, and we went out for dinner at a place he'd found by accident on South Main in Ventura. It looks like the typical dilapidated market on the outside, and inside, but there is a tiny bar area where they make delicious sandwiches!
Then back to the boat and a good nights sleep.
